Nine automakers plan Apple “Eyes Free” integration

Nine automakers are reportedly working to bring Apple’s Siri concierge feature into cars within the next year. They are Audi, BMW, Chrysler, Honda, General Motors, Jaguar, Land Rover, Mercedes, and Toyota. Mention of the automakers’ intent was made during Apple’s World Wide Developers Conference. A slide shown during a keynote address illustrated Apple’s “Eyes Free” concept with an iPhone mounted in the center of a BMW dashboard.

The integration of the smartphone into consumer vehicles will become all but standard on new models, according to a new report by Juniper Research, which forecasts that 92 million vehicles will feature technology to integrate the smartphone into the head-unit by 2016.
