Initially, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) applications, such as adaptive cruise control and lane departure warning were convenience features. Previously high performance CPUs were considered the best devices for these, but the need for compute performance balanced with lower power consumption is driving engineers to consider FPGA devices.
