Black Duck Software, Olliance Group and BearingPoint have combined their talents to launch a workshop-style consultative and advisory service for GENIVI Alliance members. The service, Governance Fast Start™, is designed to speed and reduce the cost of development when building in-vehicle infotainment products based on GENIVI specifications.
The firms said Governance Fast Start helps GENIVI Members organizations rapidly deploy the policies and processes required to meet legal requirements. The service is designed to enhance participants’ research and development capabilities, shorten time-to-market, reduce development costs, and maximize the value of FOSS (free and open source software) assets.
“Auto innovation is happening faster than ever – thanks, in part, to the use of open source software – so implementing strategic management and license compliance processes will be key to success,” said Tim Yeaton, President and CEO, Black Duck Software. “Fast Start helps GENIVI Alliance members quickly create and implement these policies across supply chains, reducing the time and energy needed to develop license compliance programs and thus freeing up more time for the business of innovation.”
The Governance Fast Start for GENIVI Members is a series of modules that can be delivered over a period of three-to-five days. The central module is the Open Source Management Assessment (OSMA) which provides a holistic evaluation of the participating organization’s FOSS management infrastructure and identifies gaps based on GENIVI FOSS licensing policy.
The program helps organizations create crucial FOSS policy and implementation roadmaps to ensure the proper management and compliance of open source obligations. The policy and roadmaps are customized based on an organization’s OSMA results, and the program also provides stakeholder-specific training and technical open source management education.
“The GENIVI Alliance is a perfect example of a new software development paradigm with companies across the automotive industry using an open source model to their mutual benefit,” said Dr. Alexander Krzepinski, Head of Product Lifecycle Management at BearingPoint. “License compliance is critical to maintain this kind of cooperation.”
