Automotive applications for TECAT’s WISER 4000 wireless torque measuring and monitoring system include monitoring strain in flex plates; measuring torque in pulleys, pistons, and all manner of shafts; and measuring temperature and vibration to predict failure in U-joints.
The WISER 4000 system is designed to simplify instrumentation verification for users while allowing them to check calibration of the system in the field. The WISER 4000 has been enhanced with two additional programmable analog outputs and higher-speed recording, and it is available with custom-built remote enclosures to protect the system’s remote unit and battery from damage due to debris.
Vishay Intertechnology Releases Industry’s First AEC-Q101-Qualified 12 V and 20 V MOSFETs in a Dual Asymmetric Package for Synchronous Buck Applications
To save space and power in high-efficiency synchronous buck converters for automotive applications, Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) today introduced the industry’s first AEC-Q101-qualified 12 V and 20 V MOSFETs in a dual asymmetric power package. The Vishay Siliconix SQJ202EP and SQJ200EP n-channel TrenchFET® devices each combine a high- and low-side MOSFET in the compact 5 mm by 6 mm PowerPAK® SO-8L dual asymmetric package, with low-side maximum on-resistance down to 3.3 mΩ.
Intersil’s 12-Cell Li-ion Battery Pack Monitor Safeguards Hybrid and Electric Vehicle Battery Systems
Intersil Corporation (NASDAQ: ISIL) announced the ISL78610 12-cell lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery pack monitor. The device provides cell balancing and accurate voltage and temperature monitoring to safeguard Li-ion battery packs in hybrid electric vehicles, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, and electric vehicles.
System designers can use the ISL78610 as a standalone battery-pack monitor or as a redundant back-up device when combined with the high accuracy ISL78600 multi-cell battery manager. This powerful combination enables automobile manufacturers to achieve the higher ISO 26262 automotive safety integrity level (ASIL) D rating.

Following almost three years of intensive testing, development and validation of advanced mild hybrid technologies with 48V ‘intelligent electrification’ applied to a Ford Focus project demonstrator, the ADEPT (advanced diesel-electric powertrain) consortium partners have announced that the project is on course to meet the stringent air quality and ultra-low emission requirements expected of near term next generation vehicles.
In addition to the current operations, Automotive Lighting – Magneti Marelli’s business line devoted to the automotive lighting sector – is integrating in Juárez production site in Mexico, a new assembly operation for LED modules.
This further enlargement of production of advanced lighting technologies is aimed at satisfying high technology applications and customer needs in a market like NAFTA, in which the LED technology penetration for front lighting is expected to grow from approximately 20% in 2016 to approximately 50% in 2020 (source: IHS – AL).
Juárez LED operation will start with the involvement of 115 employee (165 by 2016), and grow to nearly 400 people by the end of 2017.

With a frequency range up to 2 MHz for energy storage inductors in DC/DC converters and up to the inductor’s SRF for filter applications, the device released today exceeds AEC-Q200 requirements to provide a high-performing, space- and power-saving solution for DC/DC converters and high-current noise filters in high-temperature automotive systems. Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) introduced a new series of Automotive Grade radial aluminum capacitors that features high-temperature operation up to +150 °C and a useful life to 2,000 h at +150 °C to provide high stability and reliability for automotive and industrial applications.
The Vishay BCcomponents 160 RLA series is available in 10 case sizes from 10 mm by 12 mm to 18 mm by 35 mm. For enhanced reliability, the AEC-Q200-qualified capacitors offer very low impedance down to 23 mΩ at 100 kHz, a high rated ripple current to 2,000 mA at +150 °C, and a capacitance range from 33 µF to 3300 µF over a voltage range of 16 V to 50 V.
