NXP expands UJA107x family of System Basis Chips

NXP Semiconductors has expanded its second-generation UJA107x family of CAN/LIN System Basis Chips (SBCs) for in-vehicle networks, adding four new UJA107xA models that offer enhanced electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) performance to meet the stringent requirements of automakers such as Audi, BMW, Daimler, Ford, Porsche, Renault, Toyota and Volkswagen.

Porsche tests electric-powered Boxsters

Porsche has developed three experimental all-electric-drive Porsche Boxsters as part of its plan to build electric-powered sports cars.

The test cars are part of what Porsche calls its Porsche Intelligent Performance initiative, a commitment  to combine greater efficiency with performance to lower fuel consumption and emissions.

Eaton supercharger boosts performance on Chery engines

Eaton Corporation said its fuel-saving supercharger will debut in China on selected new engines on three vehicle models from the country’s leading independent automaker, Chery Automobile Co., Ltd., the Chery 1.6S Tiggo, 1.3S A3, and Riich 1.3S G3. This Eaton supercharger application will be the first on a Chinese-produced vehicle.

Research In Motion to acquire QNX Software Systems from Harman International

Harman International and Research In Motion (RIM) have reached an agreement for RIM to acquire QNX Software Systems. The deal is expected to close within 45 days. The firms said the acquisition is expected to strengthen QNX’s penetration in the automotive market.

Automakers Alliance credits technology with reducing highway fatalities

The Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers cited new lifesaving technology as one of the primary factors in driving down vehicle fatality rates in the U.S.  Traffic deaths fell to the lowest level in 56 years in 2009, with fewer than 34,000 people killed, according to U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood (www.nhtsa.gov).
