Maxim Integrated Products has introduced the MAX1441, a 2-channel, proximity and touch sensor IC for automotive passive-entry (PRKE) and user-control systems. The device provides a complete, standalone solution that reduces system size and cost by at least 30% compared to the nearest competitive product, the company said.

NXP expands UJA107x family of System Basis Chips

NXP Semiconductors has expanded its second-generation UJA107x family of CAN/LIN System Basis Chips (SBCs) for in-vehicle networks, adding four new UJA107xA models that offer enhanced electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) performance to meet the stringent requirements of automakers such as Audi, BMW, Daimler, Ford, Porsche, Renault, Toyota and Volkswagen.

Freescale and Foton Motor open joint automotive lab


Beiqi Foton Motor Co., Ltd. and Freescale Semiconductor have set up an Automotive Joint Lab. In China. The lab is the first formal cooperation project in automotive electronics for Foton Motors, which currently owns Auman, AUV, Aumark, MP-X, Midi, View, Saga, Ollin, Sup, and Forland brands.

Hella has introduced a rain/light sensor, RLS4, less than half the size of its predecessor, the RLS2. Consisting of a custom ASIC, LIN interface, optics, and software, the new device can be mounted directly onto a vehicle windshield or in the foot of a rearview mirror.
